Someone has said very truly...Too Much of anything is not good. Now a day’s online presence is everywhere in all the forms and ways...be it social media websites, be it twitter or any activity you do online is getting tracked every moment and you might not know who is watching you.
One positive side of growth of online media or social media presence has opened up scope of networking, gives faster reach of information, easy access to opportunities and growth but the other side effect of this is...this gives too much exposure of your personal information on social platforms, esp. on networking sites.
I’m a online marketing professional and I use social media platforms for getting connected to friends, colleagues and opportunities through Facebook, LinkedIn and twitter and you will surprised to know, I have got better job opportunities and success rate was higher through social platform(LinkedIn).
However I also paid a heavy price for using these platforms. I lost my job as my employer (CEO and HR) was keeping track of activity of all the employees and the biggest mistake I did was, within weeks of joining the company I updated my profile on LinkedIn, truly speaking I was not interested to work here.
However I also paid a heavy price for using these platforms. I lost my job as my employer (CEO and HR) was keeping track of activity of all the employees and the biggest mistake I did was, within weeks of joining the company I updated my profile on LinkedIn, truly speaking I was not interested to work here.
In the 3rd week of after my joining, I was informed by HR that they are keeping track of my activities on Job Sites(he didn’t mentioned LinkedIn) and if you not feeling comfortable working with us you can leave the organizations and he served me a notice.
After the discussion was over ,I was wondering from where he got to know about this, as any of the job sites will not reveal any information and no one can access individuals profile(unless you have not blocked the employer) and then I figured out , it was through LinkedIn they were keeping track. They got suspicious, within 3 weeks of joining the guys has updated his full profile.
And today the end of 4th week I lost my Job
So moral of the whole talk is: Use Social connection till the time u get JOB and once you get it...Never update it….at least for 1 year...Do not add current company profile also...so that you will not be visible in to companies network and do not add any colleagues, bosses of the company.
I learnt this lesson after paying a heavy price….NOW I’m going back to LinkedIn to search a new Job.
